Students Get Early Exposure To Careers At Limited Brands

Columbus, OH (Summer 2008) At Limited Brands, the quest to build a strong and competitive pipeline of talent is a core business practice. In 2008, Limited Brands played host to more than 200 of the best and brightest talent the state of Ohio's high schools have to offer.

On May 1, 2008, Seventy-five young women were chosen to participate in a day of networking at Limited Brands headquarters based on their community service, leadership and academic standing and because of their participation in programs sponsored by the alumnae chapters of four African-American sororities: Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho, Inc. and Zeta Phi Beta, Inc.

On June 6, 2008 Limited Brands again welcomed a group of African-American young men, all students from Columbus City Schools, to its corporate headquarters for a day of learning and networking with leaders from Limited Brands and surrounding companies. The group this time was a. This group was treated to a panel presentation from area corporate and nonprofit executives and the young men had the opportunity to experience a "day in the life of" a variety of business careers.

On June 25, 2008, for the second year in a row, Limited Brands hosted 40 minority high school students through the Accounting Careers Awareness Program (ACAP) presented by The Ohio Society of CPAs, The Ohio CPA Foundation and the Ohio chapters of the National Association of Black Accountants.

The students spent the day learning about careers in finance and accounting from a panel of Limited Brands executives. In addition, students had an opportunity to ask questions and gain additional insight regarding college courses, internships and other tips that will help them succeed in life and at work.

Students who participate in ACAP gain real-world experiences during informative workshops, interactive discussions, facility tours and one-on-one mentoring sessions with minority accounting and business professionals. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to compete for college scholarships.
